The association in Costa Rica is a non-profit tax-exemp entity or organization in which a group of people are organized for a joint purpose.

The purpose of the association in Costa Rica is very important. It should state clearly the scope of the activities of the organization. Organizations are generally civic leagues and other corporations operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare, or local associations of employees with membership limited to a designated company or people in a particular municipality or neighborhood, and with net earnings devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, religious, or recreational purposes.

Each Association must be integrated by at least 10 people and a board of Directors of at least 7 members. According to the law, part of the positions must be integrated by women.

It usually takes from 15-22 days to Register the new association and to receive a Corporate Identification. It takes about one more week to have the legal and accounting books legalized by tax authorities. In the case documents need to be apostile or legalize by Consulate, we will need some extra time to finish the process.
